Fibre, cable and 4G/5G explained
Fibre to the home (FTTH) runs a fibre-optic cable into the property. GO has the largest FTTH network in Malta and Epic runs a newer one. FTTH plans usually offer high upload speeds as well as download speeds.
Cable is Melita’s hybrid fibre-coaxial network: fibre to the street, coaxial cable into the home. It reaches almost every address in Malta and Gozo and delivers gigabit downloads, with lower upload speeds than FTTH.
4G/5G home internet (such as GO Plug’n’GO and Epic Plug & Play) uses the mobile network through a router, with no installation. Satellite (Starlink) works anywhere with a clear view of the sky. Both are useful where a fixed line is not available or not wanted.

How much speed you need
For most households, 250–500 Mbps is plenty: a 4K stream uses roughly 25 Mbps, and video calls far less. Gigabit plans make sense for large households, frequent large downloads, or home working with big uploads. If you upload a lot, compare upload speeds as well as download speeds.
