What has been announced
- Melita has announced that it intends to acquire 100% of the shares in Epic.
- The transaction is subject to merger control and other regulatory approvals. The Malta Communications Authority has said it is following developments.
- If completed, Malta would have two national mobile networks instead of three. Consumer groups have raised concerns about the effect on competition and prices.
What changes for customers now
Nothing changes automatically. Until the deal is approved and completed, Epic and Melita continue to operate as separate companies. Your contract, price, allowances and contract end date stay as they are unless your provider notifies you of a change.
Your rights if terms change
Under EU telecoms rules, a provider that changes the terms of your contract must tell you at least one month in advance. You can then generally cancel without paying an early-termination fee, unless the change is solely to your benefit, purely administrative with no negative effect on you, or required by law.
